He graduated as a dentist from the University of Utrecht and headed his personal clinic at the nearby Medical Centre ‘Berg en Bosch’ in Bilthoven, which specialises in oral implantology. He started out to play the piano at the age of five. He received virtually no lessons and can still hardly study music. This did not cease him from forming his very first trio (piano, bass, drums) throughout his University days and he still playing in his way to everyone’s delight. Frans was fifteen years old when he first heard Erroll Garner play for the duration of a radio broadcast and was hooked for life. Garner remained the principal inspiration for his very own performances. Jan van Diepenbeek (connoisseur and foremost collector of Garner records in the Netherlands) sent a copy of Frans de Wijs’CD for evaluation to James M.
